Here’s a round up of the matches that took place today in the Singer U19 Division I Cricket Tournament.
Dharmashoka College v Maliyadewa College
Dharmashoka College beat Maliyadewa College by 5 wickets in their traditional encounter at Kurunegala today. Play resumed on Day 2 with Dharmashoka College at 196 for 8 in their first innings. The last two wickets fell in a space of 9 overs and they were able to post 212 runs for their first innings.
With a deficit of 89 runs against them. The hosts came out to bat for their 2nd innings. They put together a much better performance with the bat this time thanks to an unbeaten 131 from Muditha Premadasa. His knock held the innings together while Kavindu Nadeeshan of Dharmashoka College chipped away with the wickets. He ended up with 5 wickets to add to the 3 wickets he took in the first innings. Akila Mendis bagged 3 wickets for the visitors as the hosts were bundled out for 226 runs.
The visitors were set a target of 138 runs to get in 30 overs. They were in a spot of bother at 30 for 3 but a sensible half century by Aroshana De Soyza guided them home with 5 wickets to spare.

DS Senanayaka College v Zahira College
An unbeaten 133 by Muditha Lakshan helped DS Senanayaka College post 300 for 6 at stumps on Day 1 in their Group D match against Zahira College at Maradana. The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first. Muditha was the anchor in the innings while the rest batted around him. Apart from him, Amitha Dabare managed to score a valuable 56.

Prince of Wales College v Thurstan College
Thurstan College was saved from a first innings defeat thanks to the rain which brought a premature end to their traditional encounter against Prince of Wales College at Thurstan Grounds. Play resumed on Day 2 with POW on 220 for 6 in their first innings. They showed no aggression in the morning session and ended up declaring their innings at 251 for 7.

Thurstan College got off to a flying start with Jayavihan Pradeeptha and Yohan Liyanage striking the ball all round the park. They were looking good until the lunch break when they were two wickets down. Nimesh Perera was the star with the bat for the hosts with a colorful 55 off just 59 deliveries.
But during the post lunch session they lost their way and POW got back in the game. Skipper Suwath Mendis was the chief destroyer with a terrific spell of leg spin bowling. His 5-for had Thurstan College struggling at 197 for 8 when rain began and umpires called of play.
