S. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia emerged champions of the U17 Singer Cricket Division II Championship after they managed to beat Siri Piyarathna Central College, Padukka by 28 runs in the final which was played at Thurstan College Grounds.
Having won the toss, Siri Piyarathne College elected to bowl first on a wicket that had a bit of swing on offer early in the game, due to the overnight rain. The openers made a cautious start but the middle order failed to capitalize as the game progressed. A late flourish by the lower order got them to a respectable score.

S. Thomas was finally bundled out for 153 runs in 49.3 overs as Vineth Bandaranayake top scored with 33 runs followed up by Ranuka Perera with 26 runs while Manindu Rabel chipped in with 16 runs. Kavinda Ishara, Madushan Perera and Dineth Deemantha were among the wickets, picking up two wickets each.
Chasing the modest target, the Thomians managed to bundle Piyarathne College out for just 124 runs in 42.2 overs. Kavinda Ishwara was the only batsman to perform for Siri Piyaratana as his half century went in vain with only Heshan Fernando managing to post a notable score in his support.
For S. Thomas’ College left arm spinner Thaveesha Ranasinghe took three wickets for 14 runs as the fast bowling machine Sheron Liyanage and off-spinner Dulith Perera took two wickets each.
