Sri Lanka, who defeated Vietnam in the group stage also in straight sets, took a 3-1 lead at the start of the 1st set. Vietnam managed to make it 3-3 but Sri Lanka pulled away to make it 8-5 at the first technical timeout.
With Vietnam again closing in at 14-13, the islanders went on a 4-0 run to lead by 5-points (18-13). Vietnam tried hard to bridge the gap but were unsuccessful as they lost 25-21.
The 2nd set was an evenly matched contest in the early going as both sides traded points and were 7-all. Sri Lanka made it 9-7 but once again Vietnam equalized at 10-10. Much like the 1st set at 14-13, Sri Lanka scored three unanswered points to extend the lead to 17-13. They would not look back thereafter making it 20-15 and ultimately winning the set 25-21.
With their backs against the wall Vietnam needed a good start but the Sri Lankans were alert as they edged out the Vietnamese 9-6 from 5-all. However, along the stretch Vietnam managed to equalize at 15-15 and 17-17. The Lions then scored three unanswered points to take a decisive 20-17 lead and went onto win the 3rd set 25-20.
For Sri Lanka Deepthi Romesh scored 25-points from 24 spikes and 1 block while Lasindu Methmal Wasanthapriya and Janitha Surath scored 14 (11 spikes and 3 blocks) and 9 (8 spikes and 1 ace) points respectively.
