An exciting quarter final played today between Nalanda College, Colombo and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia in the Singer Schools U17 Division I Cricket Tournament played at St. Joseph’s Grounds, Maradana ended in a tie with both teams scoring 113 runs all out.

It was a pure bowling display by both teams today after S. Thomas’ College won the toss and opted to bat first before they were bowled out for 113 runs in 33.3 overs. Lakshan Mayadunne demolished the Thora batting line up grabbing 4 wickets for just 13 runs while Jithesh Wasala and Jayod Caldera shared 2 wickets each. Mohammed Isaak was the top scorer for Thora scoring 21 runs.

Chasing down a small target wasn’t easy for Nalanada when the wickets fell in quick succession and it was all in Thora’s way for an easy win when Nalanda was 88 runs for 9 wickets in the 35th over. The last wicket partnership though held on till the last ball of the match and Nalanda had to score only 3 runs in 6 balls.

For S. Thomas’, captain De Mel bowled an excellent last over giving away only 2 runs and saving the day. A run out in the last ball when they tried to get a couple saw Nalanada College bowled out for 113 runs in 50 overs.

Moksha Sahan scored 29 runs while Thamindu Kamalasuriya scored a fighting knock of 18 runs not out, while Randiv Gunasekara chipped in with 4 wickets for 13 runs.

The match will be replayed.

St. Anthony’s College, Wattala vs ST. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa

Another quarter final of the Singer Schools U17 Division I Tournament took place today at Royal College Grounds, Colombo when St. Anthony’s College, Wattala played against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa to book a spot at Semi-finals.

Winning the toss the boys from Moratuwa invited the Wattala boys to bat first. St. Anthony’s managed to put up a decent total on board by scoring 207 runs for the loss of 9 wickets completing 50 overs. Rumesh Suranga was the top scorer for Anthony’s scoring 38 runs while Avishka Tharindu and Kaveesha Dulanjana supported by scoring 33 runs and 28 runs respectively. Thadula De Silva took 3 wickets for 24 runs and Janishka Perera and Sasika Perera shared 4 wickets between them.

Chasing the target Dunith Jayathunga scored a top class century ending up with 103 runs not out taking his team into the semi-finals. St. Sebastian’s College managed to complete the target scoring 210 runs losing just 01 wicket in 44.3 overs. Savindu Rodrigo and Sukitha Prasanna well supported the centurion by scoring 43 runs each.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa won the match by 9 wickets and qualified for the Semi-Finals.
