ThePapare learns that there have been significant developments from the Longdon Place club CR & FC, with the management signing the top two stars from the concluded Singer Schools Rugby League ahead of the Dialog Rugby League.

With the transfer window still open, the Longdon Place club has signed Gamunu Chethiya of St. Joseph’s College, the top try scorer from the concluded schools rugby league. Chethiya the former Sri Lana under 18 captain who toured the Commonwealth Youth Games, is known for his stupendous pace and his ability to outrun any opponent at any time.

The 2nd signing is Janidu Dilshan of Royal College. Fresh from the Asia Under 20 7’s series this year, the 19-year old will be eagerly looking forward to the opportunity as he sets to embark on his professional career in the club season that will kick off in November this year.

Janidu who was instrumental in getting his team through to win two back to back league titles, is a aggressive centre player who came to fame after his 2016 Bradby Shield tries.

Janidu Dilshan (L) was key in Sri Lanka’s 3rd place finish in the tournament that was worked off at King’s Park

Dilshan who made his national under 20 debut last weekend at the Asia Under 20 7’s series in Hong Kong was the standout performer for the side excelling in the opportunity that was given. An opportunity creator, Dilshan should be a player to look out for in this year’s league.

“Absolutely privileged to have the best two players from the schools rugby league in the side. They were the best three quarters.”

“I hope they perform to the best like they did in school at CR & FC” added CR & FC coach Nilfer Ibrahim on the two new signings.
