Chandimal, Sri Lanka’s Test captain was suspended by the ICC for the two Tests and four ODIs against South Africa after the St. Lucia Test match in the West Indies where he along with coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Asanka Gurusinha pleaded guilty to a level three offence, “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.

Opening batsman Dimuth Karunarathne, who top scored in the Tests against the senior Proteas has also been named along with all-rounder Dasun Shanaka who is currently with the ODI team. Shanaka is yet to play any game in the five-match series and if he doesn’t play in the fourth and fifth ODIs, he might travel to Dambulla to play the one-day matches for the Emerging team.

Asela Gunarathne, who last played in the Bangladesh ODIs earlier this year before being ruled out of the Nidahas Trophy due to a “grade II rotator cuff strain with contusion” while taking part in a fielding drill, also makes the squad.
