Former national represent and CR & FC veteran Lasitha Gunaratne takes charge as President of the Sri Lanka Rugby brigade, taking the baton from outgoing president Asanga Seneviratne.
The annual general meeting of the national body for rugby in the country, took place last evening (21st) at the Kingsbury Hotel after it was postponed initially from May. Gunaratne, the Royal College league winning captain from 1988, will take the top chair in the governing body taking office after the election for president went uncontested.
“We will be looking to take the work done by Asanga Seneviratne and his team forward and we will be looking to continue on the path we are heading” added Gunaratne following his appointment as President. Earlier, he served as Vice-President in the committee that was headed by Seneviratne.
The other executive members and the members of the council were appointed uncontested and this year’s committee will have a deputy president and well as a Vice-President representation from the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA).

The Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government and Sports Faiszer Musthapha who graced the occasion stressed that there should be correlation between the national body and the schools to take it ahead.
“It has to be a joint effort from the schools and from Sri Lanka Rugby and I have also spoken to the Ministry of Education on how we can work together”
