Shehan Jayasuriya resuming on his overnight score of 53 went on to score a superb century to help his team gain a big 1st innings lead. Sammu Ashan who was involved in a century stand with Jayasuriya scored his 2nd half-century of the series. Bangladesh were on 57/1 at the close of the day’s play.

Sri Lanka’s duo of overnight batsmen Jayasuriya (53) and Charith Asalanka (7) resumed 2nd day’s play at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today. The visitors were trailing by 89 runs with 7 wickets in hand.

However Bangla star bowler Mustafizur Rahman struck in the first ball of the day claiming the wicket of Asalanka. Sammu Ashan who then got together with Jayasuriya put on a partnership of 118 runs for the 5th wicket.

The partnership was broken by another national cap Sanzamul Islam, when he trapped Ashan for a well-made 60. Wicket-keeper batsman Manoj Sarathchandra then paired up with Jayasuriya for a 44-run 6th wicket partnership, which was broken by Mustafizur.

Jayasuriya, who got out as the 6th wicket scored 142 runs with 15 boundaries and 4 sixes. His inning was the backbone of the Lankan total. After the fall of Jayasuriya, Sarathchandra took the responsibility of guiding the Lankan inning as he together with Shehan Madushanka (12) and Malinda Pushpakumara (27) pushed the visitors score towards 300.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ ended the inning on 312 all out with a big lead of 145. Sanzamul Islam, who did the bulk of the bowling for the hosts picked up 4 wickets while Mustafizur picked up 3 vital wickets.

Bangladesh ‘A’ then started their 2nd inning with openers Shadman Islam and Soumya Sarkar handing them a descent start. Sri Lanka opted to start with the spin-pace combination of the 2 Shehans, Shehan Jayasuriya and Shehan Madushanka. But it was Malinda Pushpakumara who was successful at the end of the day picking up the wicket of Shadman Islam (19) in the 12th over.

5 Lankan bowlers were tried out during the short play of 17 overs while specialist seamer Vishwa Fernando is yet to bowl in the 2nd innings.

At stumps the home team was on 57 for 1 trailing by 88 runs. Soumya Sarkar (24) and Mizanur Rahman (13) are the 2 unbeaten batsmen. The visitors will walk in to the field on day 3 with the expectation of bundling out the hosts to a low score and wrapping up the game.
