The Sri Lanka men’s national sevens team will be grouped in ‘Pool C’ at the upcoming Asian Games that will be held in Palembang Jakarta this August.
A total of 11 teams have confirmed their participation in the Men’s category according to Asia Rugby while only 8 teams will participate in the women’s draw in the discipline of rugby sevens that will be played on the 31st August and the 1st of September at the Wibawa Mukti Stadium, Bekasi.

Sri Lanka Men’s Sevens to tour France
In preparation for the upcoming Asian Games in August…
Sri Lanka will be playing UAE and Korea in the group stage and the top two teams in the group are set to qualify for the quarterfinals. Winners of the Asia Sevens Series Colombo leg last year, Hong Kong will be in Pool A while the Asian giants Japan will play in Pool B.

In 2014, when Sri Lanka made it to the Asian Games they were grouped alongside South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Lebanon. Sri Lanka recorded comprehensive victories against Chinese Taipei and Lebanon but lost out to South Korea.
Making it into the quarterfinals after a narrow 24-19 win against China, the Tuskers were drawn alongside Japan. That game ended 40-0 in favour of Japan who later took gold.
Sri Lanka had to be content with 4th place as they lost out to South Korea once again in the bronze medal clash (17-14). Korea will be once again be a tough opposition to counter when the national side encounters the No. 3 team in the Asian circuit in the group stage clash.
Sri Lanka are currently ranked 4th in Asia behind Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea
The groups for the Men’s Sevens at the Asian Games are as follows:
Pool A – Hong Kong, China, Thailand & Pakistan
Pool B – Japan, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei & Indonesia
Pool C – South Korea, Sri Lanka & United Arab Emirates
