Sri Lanka in Group A at Paris World Games

The national sevens team that took flight to Paris last night will play in the Boys’ Senior Open category at the Paris World Games and will be competing in Group A alongside teams from France and from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The unofficial national tour to France will act as a preparation for the national side ahead of the upcoming Asian Games in August. The team, led by Sudarshana Muthtuthanthri, will be one of the eight teams that will participate in this invitational sevens tournament that will kick off on the 7th of July.

The groups for the tournament are as follows:

Group A – Sri Lanka Rugby, Leopards Sevens (Congo), Club HEC (France), Ocean’s Seven (France)
Group B – Tahiti Nui (Tahiti), Bagneux (France), Kmer 7 (Cameroon), Wolves 7 (Belgium)

Sri Lanka will be playing their first game against Leopard Sevens followed by Ocean’s Seven and Club HEC respectively on the first day of the tournament. Based on the group rankings, the top 2 teams will qualify for the semifinals that will kick off on day two while the lower two sides will play the 5/6 playoff.

The fixtures for Sri Lanka are as follows:

Saturday 7th July 4, 2018
Sri Lanka v Leopard Sevens – 2.10 p.m. (SL time)
Sri Lanka v Ocean’s Seven – 6.10 p.m. (SL time)
Sri Lanka v Club HEC – 8.50 p.m. (SL time)

The other Sri Lankan representation at the Games will be the Kandy Rugby Academy who will be participating in the under 16 category.
