Here’s a roundup of a few matches which concluded yesterday and today in the Singer Schools Under 17 Division I Cricket Tournament 2018.

Prince of Wales College (A), Moratuwa vs St. Mary’s College (A), Chilaw

Prince of Wales was put into bat by St. Mary’s, after having won the toss, on a good batting wicket. POW who reaped rewards of the poor decision, scored a massive 293 runs according to U17 standards for the loss of 4 wickets. Binura Fernando and Vinuja Ranpul scored magnificent centuries with 112 and 110 runs respectively. Channa Malith was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets under his belt.

Chasing the target, St. Mary’s College was bundled out for just 161 runs in just 49 overs. Channa Malith top scored with 44 runs while Lakshan Perera and Yasiru Rathnayake ran through the batting line-up with 4 and 3 wickets each.

St. Joseph’s was dismissed for 213 runs, after being put into bat by the Wesleyites in 45.1 overs. Johanne De Silva led the way with a half century while Shevaan Rasool and Dineth Jayakody chipped in with 41 and 37 runs respectively.

Chasing the modest total Ashian Daniel and Dunith Wellalage dumped the Wesley batsmen into a hole through their spin with 5 and 4 wickets each in 36 overs.

Lads from Ashoka Vidyalaya were convincingly defeated by Royal College Colombo. Batting first the Ashokians were dismissed for just 58 runs in 22 overs with no one making any real contributions with the bat. Royal chased down the total in 17.4 overs, just before the skies opened up, to secure a 6-wicket win.

Nalanda made things easy for themselves at home with a 10 wicket win over St. Peter’s College, Negombo. Having won the toss, Nalanda opted to bowl first on a green wicket eventually dismissing their opponents for 44 runs in 24.5 overs. Jithesh Wasala and Raveen De Silva picked up 4 and 3 wickets each. Nalanda chased down the target in just 4 overs to win the match. Lakshan Kashyapa smashed his way to 28 runs in the chase.
