Ransilu, Dhanushka and Indika to World Championship

Three powerlifters will be representing Sri Lanka at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Classic World Championship which will be held from the 1th to 17th June in Calgary, Canada.

This will be the second IPF Classic World Championship that the Island will take part in having made the debut in the last year’s edition in Belarus with Ransilu Jayathilake and Dhanushka Kodikara becoming the first Sri Lankan’s to participate in the competition.

Ransilu Jayathilake, who is the most experienced and the leading power lifter in the Island will be the skipper of the Sri Lankan contingent at the IPF Classic World Championship this year and will be competing in the 120Kg weight category. Ransilu was placed 7th overall in the last year’s competition and lifted his way to the Asian record books lifting 315Kg in the Dead Lift. He who has been rigorously training targeting the World Championship is anticipating a top 6 finish at this year’s competition and while at it, is determined to renew his Asian record. Ransilu will be competing on the 17th of June.

Dhanushka Kodikara, has been steadily progressing to become a leading power lifter in the Island. A junior Commonwealth medalist, Kodikara will be competing in the 93Kg Weight category at the IPF Classic World Championship 2018. Having finished 13th overall in his last outing in Belarus, he is determined to finish in the top 10 in this year’s competition.

Indika Paranagama, the most successful campaigner at the 2017 Commonwealth Championships from Sr Lanka. Paranagama won the overall Gold medal in the 105Kg weight category which included two gold medals in the Squat and the Bench press while he managed to clinch Silver in the Deadlift competition. This will be his debut appearance at the IPF Classic World Championship and is targeting to finish in the top 10 competitors in the 105Kg weight category.
