Sri Lanka beat hosts Malaysia by a massive 90 runs today (4th June) at the Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur, in the Women’s Asia Cup 2018. This win and Pakistan’s loss to Bangladesh earlier in the day elevated Sri Lanka to 2nd spot in the points table.
Malaysian captain Winifred Duraisingam won the toss and elected to bowl first. The combination of Yasoda Mendis and Nipuni Hansika once again gave Sri Lanka a steady start, adding 59 runs. Top scorer of the Sri Lankan inning Yasoda Mendis smashed 36 runs in just 29 balls with 4 boundaries and 1 big six. Nipuni Hansika on the other end needed 37 balls for her useful 20. Anushka Sanjeewani and Hasini Perera added 46 runs for the 3rd wicket in just 6.5 overs. Hasini Perera who hit 4 boundaries in her quick innings remained unbeaten on 32.
Sasha Azmi was the pick of the bowlers for Malaysia, she claimed figures of 1 for 12 in her 4 overs including the important wicket of Yasoda Mendis. Zumika Azmi was economical with figures of 0 for 10 in her 3 overs.

Player of the match of the previous game, Sugandhika Kumari started proceedings for Sri Lanka in their total defense. Showing the confidence and momentum gained during her previous performance, Kumari started off with 2 maiden overs. She finished her 4 overs giving away only 3 runs. Nilakshi De Silva was brought on in the 6 over. After giving away 4 runs in her first over, she picked up 3 wickets, giving Sri Lanka complete control of the match in her second over. Left-arm medium pacer Udheshika Prabodhani was not used today.
Somehow, Malaysia Women managed to see off the allotted 20 overs losing 7 wickets. Wicket-keeper Christina Baret(14) and Mahirah Izzati(10) were the only batters for Malaysia who went past 10 runs.
