Fixtures out; 16 teams to compete for Dialog Sevens crown

Sevens rugby will take over the picturesque Racecourse Stadium when the 2018 edition of the Dialog Inter Club 7’s unfolds on the 2nd & 3rd June with 16 teams going head to head for the title.

The tournament which will be played in two legs will have a record number of 16 teams who will be competing in 4 groups in the Men’s competition. In addition, the Women’s competition that will run parallel to the main draw will see the participation of 4 teams.

The groups for the Dialog Inter Club 7’s 2018 will be as follows:

The tournament was launched at the Sports Ministry by Ms. Amali Nanayakkara (Second from L) Group Chief Marketing Officer Dialog Axiata PLC

Last year’s cup champions, Navy SC ‘A’ will occupy the top spot in the draw in Group ‘A’ while runners-up Havelock SC will play in Group ‘B’. The Sailors will also field in two more teams and will provide stiff competition in the other groups.

t will be an early match-up between the two heavyweights; Kandy SC and Havelock SC when they meet in the group stage clash in the Group ‘B’. Meanwhile, the emerging force in the Club rugby arena, CH & FC will also field in two teams and both teams will play in Group D.

The top two teams of each group will compete in the Cup Quarter-finals on day two while the bottom two teams will play in the Bowl/Shield quarter-finals. The all-important Cup Final is set to take place under lights on the 3rd of June at 6.00 p.m.
