Earlier, the newly-appointed Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha postponed the SLC AGM, (previously scheduled for 19 th May) last weekend after Attorney General (AG) questioned the legality of the appointment of the Election Committee.

“This is a technical problem which can be sorted out once SLC go through the correct channels. I intend to hold fair elections in near future.” Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha said in a statement.

According to the Sports Law, all national sports bodies should hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) to elect the members for the Elections Committee but the current SLC members formed an Election Committee with approval only from their Executive Committee (Ex-Co) and informed then Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara.
