Sri Lanka secured three medals in weightlifting at the 21st Commonwealth Games, in Gold Coast, Australia making is the most successful Commonwealth competition for the weightlifters of the country.
Lifters won two Bronze medals and a Silver which included the first female weight lifting medal which was won by Dinusha Gomas as she won a Bronze medal in the women’s 48kg category. The team which returned to the Island on the 11th of April received a grand welcome at the Airport and was escorted to Colombo in an open top bus where they were felicitated at a ceremony held at the Sports Ministry premises.
The three medal winners, Indika Dissanayake (Silver- Men’s 69Kg), Chathuranga Lakmal (Bronze Men’s 66Kg) and Dinusha Gomas (Women’s 48Kg) shared their thoughts about the victories they managed to achieve with Sri Lanka’s #1 Sports Hub
