The Sri Lanka Men’s 4x100m Freestyle team were unfortunately disqualified in the final of the event due to an early entry into the water.

The Sri Lankan four of Matthew Abeysinghe, Akalanka Peiris, Kyle Abeysinghe and Cherantha De Silva had earlier in the day qualified for the final making it the 1st time a Sri Lankan swimming relay team had made it to a Commonwealth Games final.
However, in the final changeover, Cherantha De Silva left his block 0.12secs early, resulting in the disqualification.
Matthew Abeysinghe started the race and swam a 49.53secs split to end the first changeover in 6th place. Akalanka Peiris had a poor 2nd lap (52.19secs) resulting in Sri Lanka dropping down to 8th place. Kyle Abeysinghe’s 3rd lap of 50.79secs could not make any difference before Cherantha made the blunder.

Kyle Abeysinghe too flirted with an early entry in his lap where his reaction time was 0.05secs, making it the fastest in the final. Furthermore, Cherantha’s reaction time in the qualifier was 0.02secs.
Australia’s Cameron McEvoy, James Magnussen, Jack Cartwright and Kyle Chalmers won Gold with a timing of 3:12.96mins while England and Scotland won Silver and Bronze respectively.
