The much-awaited Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 is set to kick off on the 4th of April with 23 sports taking to water and land to compete for eternal glory. Badminton, is one of the few competitions on the program to feature a mixed team event, with men and women competing together on court at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

With the schedule in place for the 5-day affair of shuttlecocks, teams are arriving in Gold Coast with one common goal in mind – return home with medals around their necks. Sixteen teams have been categorized into groups of four and will play two days of round robin games within the group before proceeding to the main group stages.

The Sri Lankan contingent, led by veteran Niluka Karunaratna, is at a cut throat pool along with India, Pakistan and Scotland. With an Indo-Sri Lanka meeting in the first tie for the tournament, Niluka and company will need to pull up their socks if they are to start on a strong footing in Australia as they are facing some top rankers in the world. The highly-successful Kidambi Srikanth will look to complement Olympic medalists PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal as the trio spearhead the Indian badminton team’s campaign at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

Sri Lanka will play Scotland on the opening day as well with the clash against the Paks’ is scheduled for the following day (6th April). The top two teams after the round robin phase will advance to the knockout stage starting off with the quarterfinal on the 7th April.
