Isipathana U16 team just crossed over the line against a gritty D.S. Senanayake outfit at Havelock park earlier this evening. The game started late as the two more matches were before kickoff. However, it was Isipathana who won the U16 game 12 points to nil at the end of the allocated 40 minutes of play.

The U14 game ended up being a tame nil all draw as both teams went from right to left without a success of points to show for their efforts. Both teams knocked the ball on top of the whitewash and a golden opportunity to win the game was missed by DS when they had four players to one on the outside but the little scrum-half chose to go the other way which finally ended up being knocked on at the far corner of the field.

The U16 Isipathana team however was a far better team who almost had 80 percent of possession under their name and gave DS very little opportunity to work with. Both teams were equally matched in size but the skill levels of the two teams were far apart with Isipathana showcasing excellent handling skills and composure under pressure. The two tries that was scored were courtesy of the excellent handling and the draw and passing skills of the boys from Havelock park.
This was the first game of the league tournament for both the teams in both age groups. Isipathana will look to continue their winning run for long as they can while the DS team will look forward to getting on the points table with a win not sooner than the next week’s game.
