It is understood that with 6 months’ notice been given, Sri Lanka Cricket have already begun the search for Willis’ replacement. Reports suggest that SLC will bring in the said replacement at least 2 months prior to Willis’ departure in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Aravinda De Silva, SLC cricket committee chairman at the time, was the man behind Willis’ recruitment. The Englishman was brought down to the island nation especially for the newly created role of high performance manager and was expected to play a key role in identifying and developing young talent.

Willis played 16 first class matches for Kent and holds a number of coaching qualifications, including the ECB’s Level 4 certificate, a Level 4 Specialist Wicket-keeping qualification, and a Level 3 certificate for Coach Education.
