Sri Lanka have produced 144 Test cricketers so far with Roshen Silva being the latest capped Test cricketer when he made his debut in the third and final Test against India last month.

We at ThePapare.com take a detailed look into which schools have produced these 144 Test cricketers for Sri Lanka(as at the 02nd of February 2018). The summarization has been done based on the last school attended by each of the players.
As expected Ananda College and Nalanda College are right on top of the list with most number of Test players produced from a single school as plenty of players have come through these two schools in the early 80’s. Ananda College has produced 17 players up to date while Nalanda are not too far behind with 14 and even had the honor of producing Sri Lanka’s first ever Test captain in Bandula Warnapura who captained Sri Lanka in their inaugural Test against England way back in 1982.
There have been only 15 Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Test captains in 36 years of Test cricket. Ananda has produced the most number of Test captains for Sri Lanka in Arjuna Ranatunga, Marvin Atapattu and Sri Lanka’s present Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal, while Nalanda and DS Senanayake College have produced two captains each as well. The other schools to have produced captains are St. Joseph’s, Prince of Wales’, St. Peter’s, Royal, S. Thomas’, Trinity, Kalutara Vidyalaya and Maliyadeva.
St Joseph’s College, one of the leading catholic institutions in the country who have produced 8 players. The biggest contributor to this has been the fact that they have produced six Test cricketers in past 10-12 years.
Royal College, Colombo has also produced 8 Test cricketers in the past.
St. Peter’s College and St. Sebastian’s College come in next with seven Test players each, along with S. Thomas’ Mount Lavania who produced six players each. Ranjan Madugalle from Royal did captain Sri Lanka during a brief period while Thomian Duleep Mendis was a inspirational leader for Sri Lanka.
