Two former Veterans Football Champion teams, Old Bens Veterans and Kegalle Veterans will vie for another championship in the final of the 8th Annual Veterans Soccer Tournament for the Thilak Peries Challenge Trophy.

The final will be played at Cooray Park in Wellawatta on Saturday 27th January at 3.30 p.m.
This tournament is conducted by Sri Lanka Soccer Masters Association (SLSMA) and this year 44 teams from all over the country participated.
To give more opportunity to the outstation soccer veterans and minimize the burden of travelling for the teams, the organizers decided to run the tournament in two regions namely Colombo and Outstation.
In the Colombo region, Old Bens Veterans beat Colombo Veterans in the quarter final and Maligawatte Veterans in the semi-finals both 2-0 on penalties.
In the Outstation region Kegalle Veterans beat Trinco Soccer Masters by 2 goals to 1 in the quarter final and Badulla District Veterans also by the same margin in the semi-final.
As most of the veterans have played for top clubs and some of them have even represented the country the soccer lovers can witness exciting football talent from the golden oldies.
The champions will receive the Thilak Peries Challenge trophy medals and rupees 100,000/- in cash while the runner up will also get a trophy, silver medals and cash prize of rupees 50,000/-.
The Most Valuable Player and the Most Valuable Goalkeeper will get the Golden Boot and the Golden Glove respectively plus rupees 10,000/- cash prize.
Sri Lanka Soccer Masters Association was founded under the leadership of Thilak Peries in 1995 with the aim of helping the neglected football players who have done yeoman service for the nation in the field of football.
For the past 22 years the SLSMA has been in the forefront by helping the soccer players and their family members who are in need.
