Janitha Surath has joined the Thailand Air Force team in the Men’s Thailand Volleyball League, which is one of the highest ranked leagues in the world.

Janitha representing the Air Force volleyball team is a huge eye opener for Sri Lanka Volleyball as the players in the caliber of Janitha are in demand even at the highest level.
Sri Lankan Volleyballers who don’t receive the opportunities of cash rewards at major local tournaments will be looking forward to such offers in the future as well. It will improve the quality of Volleyball they play and give the players the much important experience.
Thailand Air Force team was renamed in 2016, after it was formed in 2010 as Chonburi E-Tech Air Force, has managed to win three Thailand League titles (2010-11, 2011-12 & 2016-17) and won the Thai-Denmark Super League in 2014 & 2015. They were ranked 9th in the 2017 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority, where Janitha represented, lost 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 27-25) in the 9th-12th place semi-finals to Thailand Air Force. Janitha was the highest points scorer in that match with 19.
The 29 year old, started his volleyball career at the Dutugemunu MV in Negambo and then switched to St.Mary’s College, Negombo where he progressed to the national level and went onto captain the national side. Under his leadership Sri Lanka won the Silver Medal at the 2016 South Asian Games.
The High Attacker, is well known for his all-round ability and leadership qualities. He won the Best Player award at the 2016 Dialog President’s Gold Cup and the Best Served award at the 2016 Dialog President’s Gold Cup and the 2016 Munchee National Volleyball Championship.
