The lethal wing three quarter, Richard ‘Richa’ Dharmapala, has been handed a one match ban by the SLRFU for a dangerous tackle on Reeza Raffaideen, in the previous match against arch rivals CR & FC last weekend at Nittawela.
Richard has been their first-choice left wing and also the acting captain in certain matches and the only Kandy player to start all games this season. His experience will be missed against CH, who are currently in full flow.
Richard Dharmapala, ironically, had an excellent outing last weekend with 2 tries under his belt, to make it 8 tries and counting for the season. Dharmapala is the third highest try scorer of the Dialog Rugby League.
The citing officer Aruna Jayasekera decided that the tackle was too dangerous after he had noted it during the game.
Dharmapala will be a big miss at the number 11 jersey for Kandy SC since they will be playing CH & FC this weekend at their home grounds Nittawela. Kandy will most likely slot in Wilwara at left wing and Danush Dayan for the right wing position.
Richard’s absence might be a morale booster for CH & FC who have put through a string of wins together and having defeated Havelock SC at Havelock Park, and are hopeful of upsetting the high-flying defending champs at home.
