CH & FC make their way up to Nittawela to face an upbeat Kandy outfit, with hopes of surprising the hosts and with the aim of applying more pressure on Havelock Sports Club for second place. What does the weekend have in store for us? Let’s have a peak.
Game one: Kandy SC v CH & FC at Nittawela, Saturday, (20th January) 3.40pm.
Hosts Kandy head into the game, fresh from dishing out a 50 point drubbing to CR, in their grudge game last weekend. The visitors come in with a win of their own against an Air Force outfit, languishing at the foot of the table.
Avantha Lee and Sajith Saranga were rested for the outing against Air Force and will surely be fresh for this crunch clash.
Top try scorer, Anuruddha Wilwara, will be wanting to extend the lead at the top, as his in-form team strides into the game as favourites.
Coach Laga no doubt is hoping to tactically oust the hosts off their unbeaten tag and if they do so, the visitors will know their push for second place could get a tad stronger.
Game two: Navy SC v CR & FC at Welisara, Saturday, (20th January) 4.00pm
Navy SC face a CR & FC outfit, smarting from a 50 point defeat from their trip to the hill country. Meanwhile the hosts, Navy, are fresh from yet another win against Police Sports Club.
Dhanushka Perera will yet again look up to his team for a repeat performance as they host CR, who will be without halfback De Costa, as he suffered a season ending injury at Nittawela.
If CR are able to nullify the home advantage, we could be in for another crunch encounter between these two teams but with the inconsistent season they have had, you could also expect CR to fold down at Welisara.
Game three: Air Force SC v Army SC at Ratmalana, Saturday, (20th January) 4.00pm,
Two teams with similar results from last week, lock horns as they seek a change of fortune.
Air Force were blown away in the second half while Army look a shade of what they were in the first round.
Ashan Bandara has missed halfback partner Rizvi and his return will be timely as Army seek to discover the form of the first round.
The visitors come in as favourites but having never discovered their form from the first round, Air Force should fancy their chances in front of the home faithful.
Game four: Police SC v Havelock SC at Police Park, Sunday, (21st January) 3.45pm
Police will face yet another tough task at home, as they take on Havelock Sports Club, who can display what they are capable of on their day.
Police will know they need to put on an 80 minute performance if they are to make the visitors break a sweat.
The form of Janith Chanaka looked inspiring last weekend and his team would look to feed him more possession, with the hopes of him sparking their line.
For Havelock Sports Club, the return of form for Riza is timely as they seek to cement their second place but the woes at five-eighth continue as Dulaj, rusty from a lack of game time and Niroshan, seem unsettled.
The visitors are the favourites and they would even be looking at the four try bonus point, as they make the short trip down to Police Park.
