Vinura ton steers Mahinda

Two matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted yesterday around the island.

Mahinda College vs Dharmapala College

Mahinda College bounced back after getting bowled out for 107 with Vinura Dulsara scoring a sparkling century and Kavindu Ediriweera taking a five-wicket haul in the second innings to demolish the Palians in the traditional encounter which ended in Galle. Mahinda College finished a successful encounter as they defeated Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya by 157 runs.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia vs St. John’s College, Jaffna

Thomian right-hander Manthila Wijeratne stroked an unbeaten 69, while Thevin Eriyagama and left-arm spinner Shannon Fernando claimed 3 wickets apiece to make a comeback after getting bowled out for a modest 130 in 62 overs. The traditional encounter is heading to an exciting finish as the Thomians took honours in the opening day in the encounter which began in Jaffna.

Match will continue today for the second day.
