Ransilu Jayathika became the Asian Champion in the 120kg category at the Asian Powerlifting Classic competition which concluded in India yesterday (9th)
The Asian competition which was held in Allphuza, Kerala, India, saw all the leading powerlifters from Asia battle for honors. Sri Lanka sent a team of three lifters to the main competition while two lifters participated in the over 40 (master’s category) of the competition.
Sri Lanka’s ace powerlifter Jayathilaka was impressive in his weight category and managed to win gold in Squat and the Deadlift forms clearing 285kg in the Squat, 315kg in the Deadlift while wining bronze in the bench press lifting 132kg. With lifting a weight of 315kg in the Deadlift at the competition, Jayathilaka managed to equal his own record which was established in Belarus at the IPF World Classic Championships in June this year. He managed to overcome the challenges from competitors hailing from Iran, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan and the host country India. The Champion powerlifter accumulated a total of 735kg to be crowned as the overall champion in the 120kg category.
Dhanushka Kodikara who competed in the 93kg category won a bronze medal in the Squat discipline while Indika Paranagama who was competing in the 105kg category won Silver in squat. In the master’s competition Athula Wijewickrama won overall gold while Hiran Fernando won overall Bronze.
