Quite the Birthday gift for Adithya Karunaratne as she celebrated her 16th birthday yesterday with the most awaited and deserved birthday present – the honour to be featured in the WTA world rankings as the youngest Sri Lankan female to ever reach this feat; standing in at a starting spot of 1223.

Karunaratne has been battling for this victory in her career for over a year now and been playing ITF circuits and many Women’s futures series tournaments around the globe, collecting sufficient points to enter the main draw. She successfully achieved this milestone last month after bagging the final two points to step into the big leagues by winning the Catalunyan Women’s Open Masters Championship and reaching the second round in the Hammamet Open.
