New Eagle to carry Antonian Rugby in 2018

St. Anthony’s College Kandy have appointed Kavinda Amarakoon as their captain in the first XV Rugby team for the new season of 2018. Mohommed Shabeer has been selected as Amarakoon’s deputy.

The appointments of the captain and the vice-captain have been officially confirmed by the principal Rev. Fr. Henry Wijewardana of St. Anthony’s College Kandy.

SACK finished as the plate champions last season under the captaincy of Dinuk Amerasinghe. With the potential, they had last year they were hard done by some of the performances they put on the field. They had Samuel Madhuwantha, Jehan Seelagama and Dinesh Rodrigo.

Kavinda Amerakoon will now have the task of leading the Antonians to the title together with his assistant Mohommed Shabeer. They will have some good players in the likes of Jithen Daulagala, Pramuditha Wickramarachchi and Theeksha Gunasinghe who performed very well last season.

Kavinda Amarakoon is a 4th year player who plays at his favored prop position and he is known for his barging runs at the oppositions’ defenses. He is also a player that has been listed for the U19 squad that hasn’t yet been finalized. He is 5 foot 11 inches in height and also has a weight of 100KG under his belt.

Mohommed Shabeer on the other hand has toured with the Sri Lankan junior national team to Bahamas to take part in the Commonwealth sevens. He will be a sure selection for the upcoming Asian Championship. He originally played at lock but was later turned into a number 8. Shabeer has a height of 6 2’ and an 88KG weight under his belt.
