U19 Cricket – Dulaj takes 7-fer; Tharusha steers Sebs

Four matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division I  two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 conducted today around the island.

Prince of Wales vs President’s College

The Cambrians won the toss and decided to bat first in gloomy conditions at the Prince of Wales grounds. The lads from Moratuwa got bowled out for a below-par 178, but fought back to demolish the Presidents’ batting line-up to 108 in 31.5 overs. Prince of Wales registered first innings points in a rain-interrupted group ‘B’ encounter.

St. Joseph’s College vs Maliyadeva College

Maliyadeva College won the toss and invited the Josephians to bat first on a sticky surface at Darley Road. Opener Johanne De Zilva was the only man who got to a half-ton as the hosts posted a formidable 286 all out in the group ‘D’ encounter which started today.

Maliyadeva right-arm off-spinner Dulaj Ranathunga completed a 7-wicket haul to keep the hosts under 300 and give them a chance to chase down the target. In reply, the lads from Kurunagala lost their first wicket in the final over of the day after a solid start.

St. Sebastian’s College vs Trinity College

St. Sebastian’s won the toss and opted to bat first on a delayed start group ‘A’ encounter which began today in Moratuwa. Skipper Tharusha Fernando anchored the innings with a valuable half-ton as the lads from Moratuwa steadied their ship after the early trouble.

St. Sylvester’s College vs Lumbini College

The lads from Kandy decided to bat first on a dusty surface at BRC grounds. However, the hosts destroyed the Sylvesters batting line-up for 91. In reply, Lumbini College edge over the visitors on first innings as they reached the target in the group ‘D’ encounter. Kandy boys batting their second innings in the opening day are 63 for 7 as the game heading towards an outright result.
