The tournament was introduced to the schools hockey calendar in 1992 with the aim of developing hockey in rural districts and bringing all the schools to one common platform so they could display their talents and skills. The Royal College hockey club and Royal College Old Boys Association have come together to organize this event positioning the tournament as an annual in the hockey arena of Sri Lanka.
This year 56 teams were drawn from all parts of the island including teams from Kandy, Wennapuwa, Negombo, Galle, Matale, Colombo, Badulla and Jaffana.
The tournament offers many attractive prizes as it’s played out for the plate, bowl and cup championships and the first round matches were played yesterday on a leaguebasis and today the second round matches started off with pre-quarter finals.
In the Girls category, the Cup championship was taken home by Musaeus College while Nalanda College took away the Boy’s category trophy. The first runners-up in the girls segment was Janadipathi Balika Nawala and for the boy’s S. Thomas Mt Lavinia took the championship.

In the plate champiosnhip, Sri Sumangala girls College, Badulla Viharamahadevi and Pushapadana Vidayalaya was placed first, second and third respectively in the girls category while St. Thomas Matale, St. Aloysius Galle and Royal Blues were placed first, second and third.
The Bowl championship in the girls’ category was taken home by St. Anthony’s Girls College Kandy while Yasodara Vidyalaya and Holy Family convent took the first and second runners-up trophies home respectively. Wennapuwa Joseph Vaz was able to take the bowl championship home while Vijaya College Matale was awarded the first runners-up. The second runners-up in boy’s bowl championship were Christ church College Matale.
Dinara Thilakarathne of Musaeus College was awarded the best player in the girl’s category while Bodhika Dias of Nalanda College was named the best player in the boy’s category.
