Hiruni Wijerathne, the US based Sri Lankan marathoner has returned to Sri Lanka after a lapse of 17 years to take part in the 17th LSR Colombo Marathon which will be held tomorrow (8th).
Hiruni earned qualification to represent Sri Lanka at the IAAF World Championships in London by winning the Eugene marathon in the USA with a time of 02:43.31, however in London at the World Championship she had to give up the race halfway at the 21km mark due to intense cramps.
Back at home after a long lapse Hiruni will be taking part in the half marathon competition at the LSR Colombo marathon and is hoping to better her own national record. She laid claim to the national record in the half marathon with her time of 1:17:34 at Evansville Half Marathon in 2014.
We, ThePapare managed to catch up with Hiruni during registration of the LSR Colombo.
