Thomian left-arm seamer Kalana Perera took 12 wickets against St. Sylvester’s College as STC registered 1st innings points in the Singer Schools’ U19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament group ‘D’ encounter which concluded in Pallekele earlier today.
Dellon Peiris won the toss and opted to bat first on a dry surface and S Thomas’ managed to post a decent 250 all out in 74 overs on day 1. Dineth Kannangara (85) and Sithara Hapuhinna (63) were the top performers as both made half tons.
In reply, the hosts crumbled under pressure as they managed only 139 in their 1st essay. Left -arm speedster Kalana Perera was the chief destroyer with a 5-wicket haul.
The home team were asked to bat again and the result was the same as the Thomian seamer Kalana Perera continued to trouble the Sylvester’s batting line-up with 7/49. The lads from Kandy were bowled out for a below par 163 inside 49 overs in the second innings.
Chasing 53 to win and with time running out in the game, the S. Thomas’ opening pair came out all guns blazing and were ever so close to the target when bad light stopped play and denied them of an outright victory as they fell short by just 6 runs.
