Mendis brothers shine for Richmond

Kamindu Mendis smashed an unbeaten 91, while his younger brother Sandun Mendis claimed 5 wickets in the Singer Schools U19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament matche which ended today around the Island.

Isipathana College vs Lumbini College

The hosts Lumbini College resuming day two on 56/4, were knocked out for a below-par 100 in a late start at BRC grounds. Isipathana left-arm spinner Madushika Sanduruwan was in total control with Lumbini batting line-up as he grabbed 5 scalps to guide Pathana to a first innings win in the traditional encounter.

Coming in to bat in second innings the visitors were 74/4 when bad light stopped play.

Maliyadeva College vs DS Senanayake College

Resuming the second day on 40/0, the home team Maliyadeva had a solid batting performance as they posted 272/6 declared. 18-year-old Supun Sumanarathne was the star for Devans with an outstanding 154* off 229 balls that included 17 boundaries, while Chaluka Attapattu chipped in with a half-ton.

In reply DSS batsmen enjoyed the limited number of overs as right-hander Muditha Lakshan made a solid half-ton in the rain hit traditional encounter which ended without a result in Kurunagala.

Richmond College vs St. Servatius College

The visiting St. Servatius College, Matara decided to bat first after winning the toss in the Group ‘C’ encounter which commenced today at the  Galle International Stadium. The decision backfired for the visitors as the off-spinner Sandun Mendis took 5 wickets to rattle the lads from Matara for a paltry 87 all out inside 48 overs.

In response, Richmond College dominated the proceedings with U19 youth skipper Kamindu Mendis scoring an unbeaten 91 along with Thavisha Abishek who partnered him with an unbeaten 58 to end the opening day on high.

Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
