Sri Lankan athletes belonging to the Triathlon Club Colombo (TCC) exceled with great performances and collected 04 podium finishes at the Singapore International Triathlon which was held on the 10th of September.
Triathlon is a multisport event which is a combination of Swimming, Cycling and Running which tests the endurance of the competitors in all 3 skills and is a popular sport worldwide. Now gathering momentum in the Island, TCC caters to athletes of all levels who are interested in taking part in triathlon competitions. This community now boasts of around 100 athletes. As the first international participation, the TCC sent a squad of 13 athletes to the Singapore International Triathlon.
The Singapore Triathlon now in its 34th year, was the first international event for the members of the TCC. The Sri Lankan athletes competed across three distances- Standard, Sprint and Mini (Super Sprint) as individual athletes as well as team relay. They managed to secure 04 podium finishes including a Gold medal finish in the Standard Relay event and is a remarkable achievement given that it’s their first international outing.

- Chantal Sirisena – 1st Place – Female 16-39 category
Colombo Ironman 70.3 scheduled for February 2018 will be the next major international competition for the athletes of the TCC. The emerging athletic club is aiming at fielding both male and female athletes across the individual categories and in the mixed relay events. The TCC also plans on holding a race locally that will help the local athletes to prepare before the grueling international competition in February.
