The Asia Under 17 Rugby Sevens will be back once again in Chinese Taipei with the Asian playing nations competing for a single spot that would take them to the Olympic Youth Games to take place in Buenos Aires in Argentina.
With last year’s Rio Olympic games featuring rugby sevens, the oval ball sport has been also included in the Olympic Youth Games that is scheduled to be held in October 2018 in Argentina.

Defending champions of the Asia Under 18 Sevens, Sri Lanka will be looking at title redemption that would get them the ticket to the Youth Games.
The Naveen Henakankanamage led Under 18’s were victorious in Chinese Taipei winning the title after defeating hosts Chinese Taipei in the final.

In lieu of the Olympic Youth Games qualifier, the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) organized the Under 18 Schools Sevens a week back as a selection trial for the under 18 team.
A total of 24 schools participated in the sevens tournament which saw Trinity College clinching the title and the national selectors would have had a good eye on the probable candidates who could be turning out for the Junior Tuskers.

Sri Lanka will be looking to utilize many of the players who toured the Bahamas for the Commonwealth Youth Games in the squad but with few more additions from the trials.
