ICC permits Chandimal to use an inhaler

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has permitted Sri Lanka Test captain Dinesh Chandimal to use an inhaler to help him recover in time for the 2nd Test against India at SSC grounds.

Chandimal was hospitalized three days prior to the first Test after a bout of Pneumonia which resulted him in missing the opening Test match in Galle.

“I am much better. Thanks to the ICC they gave permission for me to use the inhaler, and that will help me breathe properly.”

Chandimal said on Wednesday.

Chandimal was given the green light only on Tuesday by the ICC after SLC requested permission on the advice of their medical panel as the use of the medication would be violating the ICC anti-doping rules.

“It is each Player’s personal duty to ensure that no Prohibited Substance enters his/her body. A player is responsible for any Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers found to be present in his/her Sample. Accordingly, it is not necessary that intent, fault, negligence or knowing use on the player’s part be demonstrated in order to establish an anti-doping rule violation.”
