Fast bowler Suranga Lakmal has also been ruled out of the second Test due to a back spasm, “It’s more of a precaution, not really an injury but because he has complained about a pain in his back. We have decided to rest him.” Team Manager Asanka Gurusinha confirmed to ThePapare.com.

The good news for the islanders will be the availability of Captain Dinesh Chandimal, who missed the 1st Test after being hospitalized by a bout of pneumonia, three days before the Galle Test.

After making his debut in 2011, Thirimanne played 26 Tests and has averaged 24 with the bat. He was not considered for selection after the Lord’s Test match in 2016 and recently proved his fitness and form during the tour game against India scoring a brisk 59.
