Sri Lanka have been hit by another injury scare when skipper Rangana Herath bruised his middle finger on his left arm on third day’s play in the first Test match in Galle.

Mukund, Kohli fifties extend India lead

Abhinav Mukund and Virat Kohli slammed half-centuries as India extended their lead to 498 runs after third day’s play…

Indian skipper Virat Kohli punched Dilruwan Perera fiercely through the ground in the first ball of the 36th over and Herath stationed at short extra-cover injured his middle finger trying to field the ball. He was attended by the Physio immediately and was taken out of the field.

Rangana had a fracture on the same area in 2014. We are icing it now. We are not worried right now. We will know tomorrow morning to be exact. It’s the same finger that he fractured three years ago, we can’t see a fracture after we took an x-ray. If the pain continues, then we will do a MRI scan. At this stage, we are icing and we will know in the morning. At this stage, he is not going to go to Colombo or anything. Will see if he could bowl tomorrow. It was the middle finger in his left-hand. We feel it’s just a bruise.” Sri Lanka Team Manager Asanka Gurusinha stated after play.

Herath bowled only 9 overs in the second innings and conceded 36 runs without picking up a single wicket. India currently has a healthy lead of 498 runs with 7 wickets in hand and two full days to go.

The hosts are already down to 10 men when Asela Gunaratne broke his left thumb on day one while attempting a slip catch of Shikhar Dhawan to the bowling of Lahiru Kumara. Gunaratne has been ruled out of the entire India tour.
