BMS beat Thurstan College by six wickets in the first semi-final while Saegis thrashed KDU by 104 runs to secure final berths at the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament 2017.
BMS vs Thurstan College- 1st Semi-final
Thurstan College won the toss and decided to bat first at the P. Sara Stadium and ran into early trouble as they lost half of their side by the 12th over with the addition of just 46 runs. Sawan Prabash fought a lonely hand for Thurstan making a quick-fire 31 off just 21 balls which included 2 fours and 2 sixes. Sri Lankan cap and left arm spinner Amila Aponso spun a web around the young Thurstanites picking up three wickets while part timer Geshan Wimaladharma picked up three wickets for just ten runs.
Wimaladharma fell early in the run chase for BMS, but Sadeera Samarawickrama and Hashan Dumindu got things back on track with a partnership of 73 runs for the second wicket. Both batsmen fell in the 30’s but BMS got home in just 15.1 overs with six wickets in hand. Ayesh Harshana bowled a decent spell for Thurstan picking up 2/26 in his quota of four overs but it wasn’t enough to prevent the strong BMS batting line up from securing their spot in the final scheduled for tomorrow.

Saegis vs KDU – 2nd semi-final
Saegis powered their way to the final when they comprehensively beat Kothalawala Defense University (KDU) by 104 runs in the 2nd semi-final also worked off at the P. Sara Oval. The win was set up on the back of a strong batting performance as Saegis as they racked up a mammoth 234/6 in their quota of 20 overs. Chalana De Silva made 54 off just 27 balls while useful contributions came from Chathuranga Kumara(41), Damith Priyadarshan(40) and Anushka Perera(27*).
In reply, KDU were well below par as they were bowled out for a paltry 130 in just 16.2 overs. Harshan Vidyarathna struck a few lusty blows late in the innings for KDU but that was as good as it got for them as they were bowed out of the tournament sending Saegis into the final (Vs. BMS at the P. Sara Stadium on the 22nd of July). Malinga De Silva was the chief destroyer for Saegis picking up three scalps.
