Mandira Charuni has been appointed as the Captain of the Sri Lanka team for the upcoming 8th Netball World Youth Cup in Botswana.

Nadee Fernando who captained Sri Lanka in their disastrous 10th Asian Youth Netball Championship campaign back in May has managed to keep her place in the squad. Her controversial comments after the tournament saw her losing the captaincy, while Sachini Rodrigo who too was in the news for the wrong reasons made the squad.

Major changes include Hashini Perera, who was vice-captain at the Asian Youth Championship, lose her place along with Hansima Dissanayake, Rashmi Divyanjali Perera and Nirmani Perera. Hansima was in the 21 player pool after submitting a medical certificate for a knee injury which she sustained in the Asian Youth Championship but failed to recover on time. Rashmi is amongst the three stand-by players which include Imesh Nirmani and Aloka Udari Dissanayake.
Kaveena Rajapaksha has been appointed as the vice-captain of the side. The Hillwood College, Kandy girl had a storming Asian Youth Championship where she was the highest scorer of the competition. The four new faces include Mellani Wijesinghe, Susima Bandara, Natasha Aluvihare and Sethmi Danushi.

Susima Kumari Bandara from Holy Family College, Kurunegala and Mellony Wijesinghe from Visakha Vidyalaya are still U18 players who have impressed in the All Island tournaments last year. Suseema Kumari was adjudged the Best Player in the 2016 All Island Schools’ Games Netball U17 category while Mellony Wijesinghe was also adjudged the Best Player in the Milo All Island Netball Championship U16 category.
