The Interclub women 7s championship took place today at Havelock Park. Ten teams contested the  tournament with Army eventually going on to win the finals beating Navy 07 (1T,1C) points to 05 (1T) in the 1st leg of this tournament.

The second leg will played on the 25th of this month.

The ten teams were divided four groups with the top two teams of the group advancing to the cup quarterfinals and two lowest rank teams moving towards shield semifinals.

Losing teams of the cup quarterfinals went on to play the Bowl semifinals and the winners went to play in the cup semi finals.

The most exciting cup semifinals was played under lights with the winners going to cup final and the losing sides moving towards the plate final.

In the Shield semifinals Uva defeated Central Province team 17 (3T,1C) to nil and Sabaragamuwa won their match against Wayamba 14(2T) points to nil.

Cup final Army vs Navy

Navy kicked off the much awaited cup final. Navy dominated possession throughout the first half and were rewarded when Dilrukshi Kumari broke the through the Army defense with her pace to score the first try of the game. Army had a few chances before half time but couldn’t capitalize on them.

Half Time – Navy 05 (1T) – 00 Army 

Army kicked off for the second half but the kick didn’t reach ten meters. Navy had early possession but couldn’t score from the early opportunities. Sri Lankan player Ayesha Perera scored a stunning try under post showing off her speed and side stepping skills as she went over for Army. Dineshika Munasinghe bisected the upright perfectly to put her side to the lead. Army managed to hold on to the lead to clinch the first leg of inter club women 7s.
