Pakistan middle order batsman Umar Akmal has lost his Champions Trophy spot after failing two fitness tests in England. Umar has now been asked to return to Pakistan.
“He has failed two fitness tests during the ongoing camp there in England ahead of Champions Trophy,” PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan told ESPNcricinfo on Sunday (May 21). “So since we don’t have a policy to carry unfit players, it has been decided to call him back and send a replacement. We have a deadline until May 25 so we are deliberating on the possible replacements.”
The fitness tests were conducted two days ago, in Birmingham. Umar was already not considered for the West Indies tour previously due to fitness concerns. In the week gone by, the Punjab captain was also fined by the PCB and issued a warning over a misconduct during a domestic match in April.
