Younis Khan on Sunday (April 23) became the first Pakistani and the 13th batsman in the world to register 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Needing 23 runs to reach the landmark at the start of the first Test against West Indies at the Sabina Park, the 39-year old batsman moved from 22 to 26 with a sweep off Roston Chase.

Other batsmen in the elite list include Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Mahela Jayawardene, Allan Border, Sunil Gavaskar, Alastair Cook, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Steve Waugh.

It was a slow innings to start with for Younis as he reached the figure off his 84th ball. He jumped, punched the air and then went for a celebratory run towards the pavilion. The veteran right-hander, who had made his debut in 2000, reached the figure in his 208th Test innings. He paced his innings thereafter to bring up his 33rd Test fifty and was then eventually dismissed for 58 by Shannon Gabriel.

Younis, along with Misbah-ul-Haq, has been instrumental in making Pakistan a formidable unit in Test cricket after the spot-fixing scandal, even helping them scale the top spot in ICC Rankings. Earlier, he had announced that the ongoing three-match series against the West Indies will be his last.
