Jack Haynes scored a scintillating 93 as coupled with excellent bowling took the English Bunbury under 16’s to a convincing 98 run win over Sri Lanka Development under 16’s in a game played at Surrey Village, Maggona.
The English Bunbury under 16’s won the toss and elected to bat first in the first tour game against Sri Lanka Development under 16’s.
Sri Lanka Development side bowled reasonably well even though they managed to restrict the visitors to a respectable 245 in their allotted 50 overs.
Young Englishman, Jack Haynes played a swashbuckling innings of 93 as he held the innings together. He was supported well by Sam Dorsei who finished on 36 while Ahamadulla Kadri made 25 runs.
Yasiru Kathruaarachchi was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with 4 for 31. Sandun Mendis, and Lahiru Madusanka picked 3 for16 and 2 for 63 respectively for the youngsters from the island.
Chasing a stiff 245, the Sri Lankan innings never got going as the hosts slumped to a sorry 146 after been bowled out in 37.2 overs.
Pawan Rathnayake stroked a fighting 38 while Navodh Paranavithana was the only other batsman who made any contribution to the scorers with 30 valuable runs.
Lewis Gondsworth was the star with the ball for the visitors bagging 3 for just 17 runs as he and fellow bowlers handed the visitors a convincing 93 run win.
