Sri Lanka came up with an inspiring performance beating their 3rd place contender South Korea 29-7 finishing 3rd place in the Thailand 7s.

Sri Lanka who were beaten 10-15 by South Korea in the Malaysian 7s came up with a stellar performance to over- power the fancied Koreans yesterday.

Srinath Sooriyabandara (Soori) has carved himself an impregnable niche in 7s rugby; the wily diminutive Soori has gone on to make a nuisance of himself to all his opposition.  He top scored the tri list in Malaysia with seven tries to his name and in Thailand once again proved to be the match winner for the islands contenders.  This time around he scored 5 tries in five matches with skipper Fazil Marija lending support once again.

Chula Susantha and Dinusha Chathuranga scored a try each to lead the game 10-7 at the half.  Lankan stalwart Soori in a blistering run scored under the post while Sandun Herath also added to the try tally.  Susantha landed his second try to seal the game for the Lankans.

However a disappointing drubbing of 52-5 was received vs Japan who seemed to be at full strength this time around. Shehan Pathirana scored the solitary try.

Sri Lanka thrashed Thailand 28-0 in the quarters and in the preliminary rounds Sri Lanka beat Kazakhstan 26-5 and Chinese Taipei 15-12
