Two pre-quarter finals in the Singer Cup U19 division one Limited-Overs tournament 2016/17 were conducted today.
Dharmasoka College vs St. Joseph’s College
Ruthless batting by Dharmasoka College top order enabled the hosts to book their place in the top eight beating the strong St. Joseph’s College lineup by 6 wickets at Karadeniya Central grounds.
Sri Lanka U19 cap, Jehan Daniel smashed a belligerent 115-ball 146 inclusive of 13 fours and 7 sixes after the visitors opted to bat first. Daniel, opening the batting continued to pummel the Sokian bowlers till the 41st over to help St. Joseph’s reach 313 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs.
In chase of 314 runs to victory, the home team was 194 for 3 when rain intervened play and the revised target was 244 in 31 overs. Opening batsman Harshajith Rushan smashed 96 off 60 deliveries with 11 fours and 5 sixes. Experienced Kaveesh Kumara and Dinuka Dilshan steadied the chase hammering unbeaten knocks of 56 and 37 respectively.

S.Thomas’ College vs Maliyadeva College
Maliyadeva College held their nerve to beat the high-riding S. Thomas’ outfit by 1 wicket in a thriller at STC grounds in Mount Lavinia.
After being asked to bat first, the Thomians were bowled out for just 193 runs. Left-handed Sitha Hapuhinna made 31 while Ishen Perera chipped in with a valuable 46. Skipper Damitha Silva and Dinanjaya Premarathne picked up 3 wickets apiece for the visitors.
The lads from Kurunegala managed to get through to a thrilling last ball win to book their place in the quarter-finals after Dilshan Kollure slammed a match-winning 61.
