The top run-scorer of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Premier League Tournament, Sadeera Samarawickrama of Colts Cricket Club, has been added to the Sri Lanka ‘A’ squad for the 2nd unofficial Test match against England Lions which starts on 24th February in Dambulla.
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Premier League Tournament which concluded last week saw Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) winning the trophy.
The 21-year old right-handed opening batsman, who can also keep wickets, was the only batsman to score over 1000 runs this season. Samarawickrama smashed 1016 runs in 19 innings, in 10 matches. The former Josephian smashed 6 fifties and 3 centuries throughout the season to keep Colts’ hopes alive. He struck form smashing three centuries in three consecutive games against BRC, SL Army and Ragama CC respectively.
Averaging just below 60, Samarawickrama missed out on selection for the initial Sri Lanka ‘A’ squad but after the heavy loss suffered in the first four-day match, the national selectors have called up the stylish opening batsman for the ‘A’ team for the very first time.
