The Clifford Cup semi-finals will get underway at Nittawela today as the defending champions Kandy SC will host their arch-rivals CR&FC.
Kandy won their quarterfinal clash against underdogs CH&FC by thrashing them 121 – 3 last Friday; by far the season’s biggest margin of victory. CR&FC on the other hand were put to the test by the Airmen in their quarterfinal but somehow managed to escape with a 36 – 33 victory.
CR&FC sacked their coach Ben McDougall before the final match of the concluded Dialog Rugby League and former CR winger Mushtaq Jiffry was put in charge, but it is always difficult to beat Kandy in their own den.
Meanwhile, Havelocks will play Navy in the other semi-final on Thursday at the Racecourse International Stadium. The men in Pink beat the cops 46 – 26 win while the Sailors beat the Soldiers 35 – 25 in the quarters.
The Havies beat the Sailors in both games of the Dialog Rugby League and will be go into the game with a slight mental edge.
