South Korea has once again joined force with Sri Lanka to conduct the ‘U19 South Korea-Sri Lanka Friendship Trophy.’
This tournament will be a Junior Inter League Championship where the best of the Sri Lanka U19’s will be participating for their respective Leagues. This year there will be 58 leagues participating.
Each League will put together a team selected from all clubs registered with the league and FFSL.
“It is the responsibility of the respective leagues to pick the best to represent their league as well as the coaching staff,” President of the Sri Lanka Football Federation added.
Though the tournament is scheduled to be played on a knockout basis, upon a question from the media the FFSL is looking into having it as on home and away basis like last year.
“Yes, we have also pondered about that because by having two legs the competition will intensify and each league will have a fair play. We will take a final decision as to whether we will have it as a knockout tournament or on home and away basis at the next council meeting,” Chairman of Finance and Media Ranjith Rodrigo mentioned.
The winners will receive the coveted trophy including Rs.100,000. Last year’s champions were Jaffna League and the runner-up was Kandy League.
